Villager murdered in Bastar after witchcraft allegations
Two accused arrested after killing in village
Jagdalpur | Correspondent: In the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, a combination of personal enmity and superstitious beliefs has claimed the life of a villager. Manglu Mandavi was sitting outside his home under the shade of a mango tree.
Two brothers from the same village, Aytu Markami and Sukhram Markami, arrived intoxicated and confronted Manglu, accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
The incident took place on the afternoon of April 30th in Pakhnar village, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Darbha police station.
The dispute escalated rapidly; in a sudden outburst of violence, during arguments, Aytu repeatedly stabbed Manglu in the chest with a knife. As the wounded Manglu collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain, the second brother, Sukhram, crossed all limits of brutality by slitting his throat with the knife, resulting in his instantaneous death at the scene.
After committing the crime, both accused individuals fled into the nearby dense forests to evade arrest. Acting with promptness, the police cordoned off the area and apprehended both suspects on May 1.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have sent them to judicial custody.
