Bilaspur youth held captive in Russia, family seeks help
The victim was lured to Russia with a promise of a job
Bilaspur | Correpondent: A young man from the Bilha area in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district has fallen victim to a sinister plot after traveling to Russia in search of employment. Vineet Kumar Dubey, a resident of Bilaspur, arrived in Moscow on October 1, but all contact with his family has been lost since October 7. His sudden disappearance has left his family deeply worried and terrified.
According to Vineet’s sister, Ashi Dubey, her brother was lured to Russia with the promise of a job, facilitated through a Telegram group.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, Vineet was prevented from visiting the Indian Embassy and was instead kept in a hotel.
He was later held captive in an apartment in the city of Volgograd.
Ashi alleges that on October 7, unidentified individuals took Vineet away and began pressuring him to join the war in Ukraine. When he refused, he was subjected to severe physical assault and denied food; he is now being blackmailed through a fabricated drug-related case.
The family learned of these events via a WhatsApp message from an individual named Kishor. Following this, they immediately met with Bilaspur SSP Rajnesh Singh and Collector Sanjay Agarwal to plead for his safe return.
Given the gravity of the situation, the Bilaspur police administration has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Russian Embassy. The SSP stated that a letter has been sent to the Embassy, and they are awaiting a response; further necessary action will be taken once an update is received.
