Wild bear killed in road accident in Korba

Korba | Correspondent: A wild bear was hit by a speeding vehicle near Sardukula on the Urga-Pathalgaon National Highway in Korba district, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday night. It died tragically on the spot. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when the bear was trying to cross the road from the forest.

The impact was so severe that the bear died on the spot, while the driver managed to escape with the vehicle after causing the accident.

On receiving information from local residents, forest department officials and veterinary doctor Dr. Ankit Shukla immediately arrived at the scene, where the bear was declared dead after a formal examination. On Monday, the bear was given a post-mortem in the presence of Divisional Forest Officer Premlata Yadav and Sub-Divisional Officer SK Soni.

Villagers say that the construction of the Bharatmala road project and the new railway line is disrupting the natural habitat of wildlife, forcing them to frequent populated areas and the highway.

Local residents have demanded that the administration immediately construct overbridges, underbridges, and provide adequate lighting in sensitive areas to protect wildlife, so that such accidents can be prevented in the future. Symbolic Photo
