Mahasamund | Correspondent: Six members of a family were attacked by a leopard after it entered their house late on Saturday night. The incident took place in Jhitki village, located within the Bagbahara forest range of Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district.
The presence of the leopard created an atmosphere of panic across the entire area.
According to reports, the harrowing incident occurred around 1:30 AM on Saturday when 55-year-old Uttari Bai stepped out of her house to use the toilet.
A leopard, lying in wait amidst the bushes, suddenly pounced on her.
Hearing Uttari Bai's screams, other family members rushed to her aid; however, the leopard went on a rampage, entering the house and attacking anyone who crossed its path. Sarju Yadav (60), Janak Yadav, Manish Yadav, Kasar Yadav (14), Uttari Bai (55), and Sunita Yadav (32) were injured in the incident.
Despite the leopard's attack, the family displayed immense courage. Risking their lives and acting with presence of mind, they managed to confine the leopard inside one of the rooms, thereby averting a potentially greater tragedy.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police and Forest Department teams arrived at the scene. With the help of the emergency '112' service, all the injured were immediately taken to the Bagbahara Community Health Center; after receiving first aid, they were referred to the Mahasamund Medical College Hospital.
Given the critical condition of three of the injured, they have been referred to Raipur for advanced medical treatment.
Currently, the Forest Department and police administration have cordoned off the house for safety reasons and issued strict instructions to villagers to stay away. An expert rescue team has been summoned from Raipur to safely rescue the leopard. Officials state that their top priority is to safely extract the leopard while ensuring the safety of the villagers.
