Teen claims self-defence in Surajpur man’s death
The girl has alleged sexual assault.
Surajpur | Correspondent: A 17-year-old girl brutally killed her 65-year-old elderly relative (a watchman) in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district. The incident is reportedly linked to an alleged sexual assault on the girl late at night. The man whom she called 'Baba' and trusted betrayed that trust by attempting to commit this heinous act.
According to reports, the girl had arrived in Surajpur from a nearby village for work just a few days earlier and was staying at the under-construction house where her relative worked as a watchman. On the night of September 27, both went to sleep after dinner. It is alleged that late that night, the elderly man attempted to sexually assault the girl.
In self-defense, the girl resisted and struck the man on the head with an iron rod lying nearby. She then slit his throat with a blade kept near the bed, resulting in his death on the spot.
The next morning, when laborers arrived for construction work, they saw the girl hurriedly leaving the premises. Upon entering, they discovered the blood-soaked body.
Acting swiftly upon receiving the information, the police took the girl into custody. During interrogation, she revealed the details of the incident and alleged sexual harassment.
The police produced the girl before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and sent her to a juvenile observation home in Ambikapur. The police are currently investigating the matter based on forensic evidence, the post-mortem report, and statements.
