Over 450 villagers join Congress in Dantewada
Dissatisfaction over development led to the move
Dantewada | Correspondent: On Wednesday, more than 450 villagers from the Phulpad Gram Panchayat located in the Kuakonda development block in Dhantewada district joined the Congress party during a major induction event.
According to Congress claims, those joining the main opposition party include the local Deputy Sarpanch, several Panch members, senior village leaders, and even workers from the ruling BJP.
Neglect of development work in the area and resentment towards local public representatives are cited as the primary reasons behind this mass switch in allegiance.
During the membership drive, villagers alleged that the current government is not serious about public interest issues and that the area's fundamental problems are consistently being ignored; frustrated by this, they decided to leave the BJP and place their trust in the Congress.
Several prominent Congress leaders visited Phulpad village for this major political shift.
The villagers were inducted as primary members of the Congress party in the presence of PCC Joint General Secretary Chhavindra Karma, PCC member and former District Congress President Awadhesh Gautam, and Block President Dev Singh Tati.
Senior party leaders welcomed the new members into the organization by draping them with traditional gamchas (scarves) and described the event as a clear indication of the Congress party's growing public support in Bastar. Leaders claim that this development will further strengthen the organizational structure in the region.
Key figures who joined the Congress include Deputy Sarpanch Kamlu Kadti, along with Panch members Manoj Mediami and Joga Barse. Additionally, hundreds of local citizens including prominent village figures such as Nanda Barse, Pandu Podium, Bhima Mediami, Mahesh Mediami, Kosa Kunjam, Gangu Vatti, Ramesh Vatti, Mukesh Mediami, Bhima Vatti (Perma), and Govinda Barse joined the party en masse, thereby altering the political dynamics of the area.
