Raipur | Correspondent: Led by Deepak Baij, the Congress party undertook a 14-kilometer foot march from Nakti village in Raipur to the Raj Bhavan to protest against a demolition drive involving bulldozers. The march passed through VIP Chowk and reached Lok Bhavan, but the delegation was unable to meet the Governor.

The Congress leaders subsequently requested an appointment with the Governor.

Congress leaders stated that if an appointment with the Governor is not scheduled within the next three days, the party would launch an intensified agitation. Earlier, along the route, Congress leaders, party workers, and affected families sat on the road and shared a meal.

A scuffle broke out between the police and protesters near Make in India Chowk. Protesters attempted to break through the barricades and move forward, while the police tried to stop them. Several women protesters alleged that police personnel had assaulted them.

The protesters demanded that the government should rehabilitate them within the village.

Congress delegation unable to meet the Governor

A delegation comprising Nakti villagers and Congress leaders arrived at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday to meet the Governor, but the meeting did not take place.

Congress leaders reiterated that if an appointment with the Governor is not arranged within three days, the party would launch a more intense agitation.

The Congress delegation at Lok Bhavan included former MLAs Anita Sharma and Vikas Upadhyay, along with Raipur City and Rural Presidents Shrikumar Menon and Rajendra “Pappu” Banjare. Congress members expressed anger over the failure to secure a meeting with the Governor despite submitting letters twice. They are currently staging a sit-in protest outside Lok Bhavan.

Several women participating in the protest accused police personnel of assault, alleging that force was used to stop them. The women said they would not back down until they were allowed to meet the Governor.
