Mysterious bat deaths trigger alert in Dallirajhara
Officials are awaiting laboratory reports to determine the cause behind the unusual bat fatalities
Balod | Correspondent: As the reports of mysterious deaths of bats continue in the areas of Mines Vocational Training Institute (MVTI) of Dallirajhara. However, the reason behind the mass death is still not confirmed. Initially, it was believed to be due to the extreme heat, but now experts believe the underlying issue could be far more serious.
Given the gravity of the situation, Abhishek Agarwal, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Balod, along with his team, conducted a thorough on-site inspection and advised residents to stay away from the area. The DFO noted that similar incidents have also been reported in the neighboring districts of Kanker and Korba.
The symptoms observed in the deceased bats point towards a serious infection. He reasoned that since the heat conditions are uniform across the entire region, yet the bat fatalities are occurring exclusively at this specific location, the suspicion of an infection is further reinforced.
The Forest Department has collected samples from the dead bats and dispatched them to an institute in Bhopal for analysis; the actual cause of death will be revealed only after the report is received.
The suspected infection among the bats has now heightened the risk of its potential transmission to humans, prompting the administration to maintain a state of high alert.
Following this unprecedented incident, the first of its kind in history, the General Manager of the Bhilai Steel Plant has also ordered an internal inquiry into the matter. Currently, the administration is actively engaged in bringing the situation under control and implementing precautionary measures.
