Jashpur | Correspondent: In Kharapara village, located under the jurisdiction of the Patthalgaon police station in Jashpur district, a 34-year-old man was brutally murdered due to a combination of personal enmity and a romantic affair. The attackers knocked the victim to the ground and crushed his head with a heavy stone, causing him to die instantly at the scene. Acting with promptness, the police have apprehended three members of the same family involved in the crime, including a minor.

According to the information received, the deceased has been identified as Sushil Khalkho (34), a resident of Jamjunwani. Meanwhile, the arrested accused include Jaylal Ekka (34), Jayman Ekka (36), and a 17-year-old juvenile; they are reported to be related as father, son, and uncle, respectively. Police investigations revealed that the deceased, Sushil Khalkho, and the wife of the prime accused, Jaylal Ekka, had been involved in a romantic relationship for the past 3 to 4 years. This long-standing animosity had previously led to legal disputes, resulting in Sushil serving a jail term. He had returned home on bail only about a month and a half before the incident.

Even after his release from jail, communication between the two did not cease. Recently, following a community-level *panchayat* (council meeting), and taking the prevailing circumstances into account, the woman was granted permission to live with Sushil. The accused family was unable to come to terms with this decision by the community, and resentment continued to fester within them.

On the night of the incident, around 11:00 PM, the accused waylaid Sushil on the road. An eyewitness, Janaki Lakra (35), stated that upon hearing a commotion outside, she stepped out of her house and observed the three accused jointly and brutally assaulting Sushil.

In the midst of the attack, they threw Sushil to the ground and repeatedly struck his head with a large stone lying nearby; he succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to excessive blood loss. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene.

Acting swiftly under the leadership of Pathalgaon Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Vineet Kumar Pandey, the police team took the absconding accused into custody. During rigorous interrogation, all three confessed to their crime. The police have registered a case in the matter under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
