Police team questioned over alleged bribe in cybercrime case

Guwahati | Desk: The Guwahati Police have detained and interrogated a four-member team from the Chhattisgarh Police, including an Inspector, following allegations of bribery. This case stems from a cybercrime investigation, wherein the Raipur Police team faces serious allegations of demanding and accepting money in exchange for releasing the accused individuals.

According to officials, the Raipur Police team had arrived in Guwahati on Sunday in connection with a cybercrime case. The team had already arrested one accused person from Bihar and subsequently apprehended three other suspects from Guwahati on Monday.

It is alleged that, after accepting a bribe, the team released two of the accused individuals, while keeping the third in custody until the remaining amount was paid.

Acting on a complaint filed by Arun Kumar, one of the accused individuals who had been released by the Dispur Police in Guwahati, took the entire team into custody.

The police stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in this matter under the relevant sections of the law. Following preliminary interrogation, the police personnel were released after being served notices and have been directed to appear again for further investigation. Currently, a thorough investigation into the matter is underway.
