Farmer harassed for money, ends life in Raigarh
Rs. 89,500 transferred before suicide
Raigarh | Correspondent: A shocking case has emerged from the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, where a farmer was driven to take his own life not due to debt or crop failure, but as a result of digital blackmail and severe mental harassment. Bhaskar Gupta, a farmer residing in the village of Kerabahar within the Lailunga police station area, ended his life by hanging himself from a Mahua tree near Pandri Pond on June 23, 2024.
Now, following a lengthy and meticulous police investigation spanning nearly two years, the truth behind this suicide mystery, which has left everyone shaken, has finally been unveiled.
The investigation has revealed the sensational fact that Bhaskar Gupta was being subjected to constant intimidation and threats from an unidentified mobile number, while simultaneously facing immense psychological pressure to pay a substantial sum of money.
Broken by this horrific ordeal, the victimized farmer had even transferred a total of ₹89,500 (in separate installments of ₹12,500, ₹18,500, and ₹58,500) into the accused's bank accounts.
Despite this, the blackmailer remained insatiable and continued to issue threats while making yet another hefty demand for ₹85,500. Unable to bear this crushing stress any longer, Bhaskar took the drastic step of ending his life.
The entire conspiracy was finally exposed only after the police, in addition to recording the statements of family members and villagers, thoroughly scrutinized bank accounts and digital transaction records. Armed with concrete technical evidence, the Lailunga police have now registered a case against the unidentified accused under Section 306 of the IPC (Abetment of Suicide).
The police are currently working to trace the accused's location using the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the mobile number in question, along with bank transaction data and other digital evidence; authorities have expressed confidence that the perpetrator will soon be behind bars.
