Raipur | Correspondent: Chhattisgarh tops the country in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), ironically government hospitals across the state is facing 214 vacancies of gynecologist positions raising concerns about maternal health.

According to the official data, Bemetara, Bijapur, and Jashpur are the districts with 11 posts each currently vacant.

Jagdalpur and Kanker with 10 gynecologist posts vacant in each district.

Another group of districts including Balod, Kondagaon, Surajpur, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur each have nine posts vacant.

Meanwhile, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa lack eight gynecologist position vacant.

The shortage raises an obvious question, who is examining and treating pregnant women in government hospitals when so many specialits posts remain vacant.

While welfare schemes like Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) aims to encourage institutional deliveries and maternal care, the continuing shortage of gyanecologists point to a gap between policy and achievements and the availability of specialist care on the ground.
