Chhattisgarh bandh over Kanker communal tensions
Raipur | Correspondent: A joint platform of social and tribal organizations in Chhattisgarh, called 'Sarva Samaj,' has called for a statewide bandh (shutdown) on December 24. The shutdown is in protest against the recent communal dispute and administrative actions in the Amabeda area of Kanker district.
Sarva Samaj alleges that the administration's response to the dispute over religious conversions in Amabeda has been one-sided. The organizations claim that the faith and traditions of the tribal community are being undermined. In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the platform clarified that the shutdown will be entirely peaceful and democratic.
The bandh has been called by Sarva Samaj, Chhattisgarh (a group of various tribal and social organizations). The Chhattisgarh bandh is being observed against the violence in Amabeda (Kanker) and the alleged biased actions of the administration.
With support from tribal organizations and civil bodies in various districts of the state, business establishments and services may be affected. The police and administration are on high alert to maintain law and order during the shutdown.
