Baghel says no comment on Singh Deo remarks
Baghel refuses to give personal opinions on internal party matters
Raipur | Correspondent: Amid the ongoing discussions over leadership roles in Chhattisgarh Congress, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said he does not react to statements made by senior leader T. Singh Deo.
Speaking to the media in Raipur, Baghel said Deepak Baij has been working as the state Congress president for the past three and a half years and is actively strengthening the organisation. He added that decisions regarding the state president or Leader of Opposition are entirely taken by the party high command.
“I do not give any personal opinion on such matters. Whatever decision the party leadership takes will be final,” Baghel said.
The remarks come after T.S. Singh Deo recently indicated that he would be willing to take up the responsibility of state Congress president if the party assigns it to him. He also said he remains committed to working for the party and the state.
Reacting to Singh Deo’s comments, Deepak Baij said the senior leader should consider working at the national level in Delhi and give opportunities to younger leaders in the state.
Singh Deo, meanwhile, has also spoken about the party’s performance and said strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level should be the top priority. He acknowledged electoral losses faced by both himself and Baij, and said leaders should be evaluated based on their work and results.
He added that he is meeting people across the state and is ready to take on any responsibility given by the party.
The ongoing statements from leaders have added to speculation over possible changes in the state Congress leadership.
