Baby Delivered Under Mobile Torchlight in Chhattisgarh
Bilaspur | Correspondent: In Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, a pregnant woman delivered her baby under the light of a mobile phone torch. During the delivery, the electricity suddenly went out. After this, the nurse asked a person standing outside the delivery ward for his mobile phone and stitched the patient under the torchlight.
Meanwhile, people present at Takhatpur Community Health Center recorded a video of the incident. The video was shared widely on social media. In the video, candles can also be seen lit in the hospital ward so that it wouldn’t remain completely dark.
Actually, Jyoti, a resident of Belsari, experienced labor pains at home on Sunday night and was brought to the health center. As her pain intensified, she was admitted. She was taken to the operation theater for delivery when the power suddenly went out at the health center.
Darkness spread in the OT, leaving the nurses distressed. When it came time to put stitches after the delivery, the nurse requested a mobile phone from a person standing outside. The stitches were completed under the torchlight. Thanks to timely presence of mind, both the mother and newborn are safe.
Patients present at Takhatpur Community Health Center continued to suffer due to the power outage. Admitted patients were seen fanning themselves with cloths in the humid heat. This posed a risk of their conditions worsening.
BMO Umesh Kumar Sahu stated that the health center has a three-phase power connection. At the time of the outage, one phase was still functional. If an electrician had been present, the supply could have been restored by switching the phase. However, power was restored in about half an hour.
He further said that it is wrong to claim that electricity had been out since morning. Because the power was off for a long time during the day, the inverter failed to provide backup. Due to the critical condition of the mother and the emergency situation, the delivery had to be conducted under mobile torchlight.
