New coaching terminal planned at Kendri in Nava Raipur
Raipur | Correspondent: Indian Railways has decided to construct a new coaching terminal at Kendri in Nava Raipur to enhance rail connectivity in Chhattisgarh and improve passenger facilities. The main objective of this project is to alleviate the heavy pressure on train operations at Raipur Junction and expand passenger amenities.
This move is part of Indian Railways' broader strategy to double train handling capacity in major cities by 2030.
Currently, Raipur Junction manages approximately 122 trains daily, but with only seven platforms, operations face significant challenges.
Under the new plan, the Kendri terminal will have nine platforms, including one home platform and four island platforms.
In addition, five pit lines, five stabling lines, four intermediate overhauling lines, and four mechanical lines will be constructed for train maintenance and storage.
To strengthen regional connectivity, work is also progressing rapidly on the extension of the fourth rail line on the Bilaspur-Nagpur section, the automatic signaling system, and the doubling of the rail line between Kharsia and Parmalkasa.
Simultaneously, Raipur Junction is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹456 crore, which will provide world-class facilities to passengers. Currently, various railway projects worth approximately ₹41,000 crore are in the pipeline in Chhattisgarh, which will completely transform the state's transportation infrastructure in the future.
