Chhattisgarh Weather: Monsoon Activity to Increase from June 14
Raipur | Correspondent:The Meteorological Department has forecasted an increase in monsoon activity across Chhattisgarh starting today, June 14, 2025. After a delayed onset, the monsoon is expected to become more active, particularly in the Bastar region, with prospects of further advancement into other parts of the state.
The joint teams of the District Excise Department and the State Flying Squad conducted a raid in the Lalpur area, targeting a composite liquor shop based on a tip-off about illegal alcohol-related activities. The raid resulted in the seizure of 229 cases of suspected adulterated liquor, with 22 cases confirmed to contain adulterated liquor. The main accused is currently absconding, and authorities are hopeful of making arrests soon.
In the weather update, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning in 14 districts, including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, and Korba. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 50–60 km/h, with the possibility of light showers in some areas. The monsoon is anticipated to reach Raipur by June 16 or 17.
As of now, 27 out of 33 districts in the state have received below-average rainfall, with an overall deficit of 51%. The delayed and insufficient rainfall may impact the Kharif crops if the situation persists.
The Meteorological Department attributes the delayed monsoon onset to the weakening of pre-monsoon winds and the development of low-pressure areas in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. These factors are expected to activate the monsoon, bringing much-needed relief to the state.
In the meantime, the state continues to experience high temperatures, with Raipur recording a maximum of 39.6°C. The combination of heat and humidity has raised concerns about health risks, especially among vulnerable populations.
