Ambikapur | Correspondent: The State Congress Committee has constituted a six-member special inquiry team led by former Minister Amarjeet Bhagat after the tragic incident of 15 deer attacked by the stray dogs at Sanjay Park in Sarguja.

This team will soon visit the site of the incident and submit a detailed report to the party headquarters. The team includes District Congress President Balkrishna Pathak and Leader of the Opposition Shafi Ahmed, along with other senior leaders from the region.

Notably, on the night of last Friday, dogs entered the park's enclosure and attacked the deer; subsequently, 14 deer succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, and one more died on Sunday. Expressing deep concern over the incident, Congress President Deepak Baij has accused the state government of failing to ensure the safety of wildlife.

He alleged that the department is targeting only lower-ranking employees in an attempt to shield senior officials.

On the other hand, recognizing the gravity of the matter, the Forest Department has also constituted a two-member high-level inquiry committee under the directives of the PCCF (Wildlife). So far, five employees including a Deputy Ranger have been suspended for negligence in connection with this case.

Sanjay Park, which had been closed to the public for security reasons following the incident, has now been reopened after the enclosures were repaired and security arrangements were bolstered.
