Marwahi | Correspondent: Fear has spread in the Ghusariya and Ghinauchi areas of Chhattisgarh’s Marwahi Forest Range after a wild elephant entered nearby villages on Sunday evening. Forest Department teams have been deployed in the area and are closely monitoring the elephant’s movement.

According to officials, the elephant damaged crops in Ghinauchi village and also destroyed parts of a few houses, creating panic among residents.

As the tendu leaf collection season is underway, the Forest Department has warned villagers not to enter forest areas. Public announcements are being made in nearby villages asking people not to approach or provoke the elephant.

Officials said villagers should immediately inform forest staff about any emergency to avoid loss of human life.

In recent months, elephant movement has increased across several forest divisions of Chhattisgarh, including Marwahi, Dharamjaigarh, and Surguja. Herds are increasingly entering villages and farmland, damaging crops and sometimes attacking livestock.

To track elephant movement, the Forest Department is using drones and radio-collaring technology. Authorities are also working to speed up compensation for affected farmers and improve alert systems through mobile applications such as ‘Gajraj’. (File Photo)
