Sudden weather shifts across state

Bilaspur | Correspondent: The weather patterns in Chhattisgarh are changing rapidly. Amidst scorching heat, a spell of storms and rainfall has now commenced in several parts of the state.

The Meteorological Department has forecast the likelihood of strong winds, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rainfall across the state over the next four days.

On Wednesday afternoon, the weather in Bilaspur took a sudden turn. A squall accompanied by strong winds swept through the area, followed by the onset of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

While this shift in weather certainly offered people some respite from the heat, the effects of high humidity persisted.

Until the afternoon, people were distressed by the intense sunshine and hot winds. The roads appeared deserted, and markets witnessed thinner crowds compared to normal days. Suddenly, however, the sky became overcast, and strong winds began to blow.

Shortly thereafter, a dust storm gave way to rainfall. In several localities, tree branches snapped and fell, while the strong winds caused difficulties for people commuting. Although the rain did not last for long, a noticeable drop in temperature was recorded.

According to the Meteorological Department, similar weather conditions are likely to prevail across various districts of the state between May 13 and May 16. There is a possibility of light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in several locations.

The department has issued a warning that strong winds, gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, may blow during this period. In view of the sudden changes in weather, people have been advised to remain vigilant. Specifically, they have been urged to avoid standing in open fields, near trees, or close to structurally weak buildings.

According to meteorologists, a trough line currently extends from Madhya Pradesh to Manipur. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is active in the vicinity of the Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of these weather systems, atmospheric moisture levels in Chhattisgarh are rising, creating conditions conducive to storms and rainfall. The Meteorological Department states that due to pre-monsoon activity, weather fluctuations are expected to continue in the coming days.

However, despite the rain and strong winds, complete relief from the heat is not anticipated. The department estimates that the maximum temperature could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four days.

This implies that the heat will persist during the day, while the weather conditions may change during the evening or night. People may continue to face discomfort due to intense sunshine and humidity.

Over the past 24 hours, the weather across the state remained mostly dry, although an increase in temperature was recorded. In several districts, the maximum temperature remained above normal levels. Durg emerged as the hottest district in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius.

Conversely, Ambikapur recorded a minimum temperature of 22.9 degrees Celsius, making the weather there relatively pleasant during the morning and night hours.

In the capital city of Raipur as well, the Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of thunderstorms, light rainfall, and dust storms.

The city's maximum temperature is expected to hover around 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is projected to be 28 degrees Celsius.

In light of these continuous weather fluctuations, health experts have advised people to limit their outdoor activities during the afternoon, consume adequate amounts of water, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat.
