SIR: deadline extended again in Chhattisgarh

Raipur | Correspondent: The deadline for submitting voter forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, currently underway in 12 states and Union Territories across the country, has been extended once again.

The deadline has been extended in a total of six states, including Chhattisgarh. The deadline for submitting forms in the state has been extended by one week, to December 18th.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are going door-to-door across the state distributing forms to voters. Despite this, thousands of forms have still not reached the Election Commission. The Commission has made it clear that voters who do not submit their forms within the stipulated time will be issued notices.

Necessary process for updating the voter list

According to commission officials, the objective of SIR is to improve and update the voter list. Under this process, new voters who have completed 18 years of age will be added, the names of deceased or relocated voters will be removed, and incorrectly recorded names and addresses will be corrected.

In Chhattisgarh, today (Thursday) was the last date for submitting forms. BLOs are continuously collecting forms, and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties are also cooperating in this process. The Commission has warned that action may be taken against those who delay.

Currently, there are 2,12,30,737 registered voters in the state. 24,371 BLOs and 38,846 BLAs have been appointed for the SIR process. BLOs are visiting each voter's home up to three times, but a large number of voters are still not submitting their forms. Considering this situation, the Commission has indicated that it may take strict action.
