Sharp tongue cleaner gets stuck in toddler’s eyelid

Dhamtari | Correspondent: In Kaspur village of Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district, a jibhi (tongue cleaner) became deeply embedded in the eyelid of an innocent two-year-old child while he was playing. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, when Jagdish Netam's son, Krishna Kumar, was playing near his mother at home. The child happened to be holding the tongue cleaner while bathing; suddenly, he lost control of the object, which pierced through his eyelid and became lodged inside.

Upon hearing the child's screams, his family members rushed him to the Dhamtari District Hospital, where ophthalmologist Dr. J.S. Khalsa and his team, recognizing the gravity of the situation, immediately initiated emergency surgery.

Exercising extreme caution, the doctors successfully extracted the sharp object from the child's eyelid within just a few minutes. Dr. Khalsa stated that, thanks to their timely arrival at the hospital, the child's eyesight remained unharmed, and he is now completely out of danger.

The doctors have advised parents to refrain from keeping sharp and dangerous objects within the reach of children to prevent such accidents.
