Ranchi man arrested in Bilaspur rape, fraud case
BJP leader alleges ₹1.5 crore cheating, rape case
Bilaspur | Correspondent: Police in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district have arrested a Ranchi-based businessman accused of cheating a BJP leader of more than ₹1.5 crore and sexually assaulting her.
Bilaspur SSP Rajneesh Singh said the accused, identified as Sanjay Singh, was arrested in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and brought to Bilaspur for questioning.
Police said an FIR was registered against him on May 14 at the Civil Lines police station under sections related to rape, extortion, and fraud after the woman filed a complaint.
According to the complaint, the woman met Sanjay Singh in Delhi around two years ago. He allegedly introduced himself as a well-known industrialist and convinced her to invest in a mining business by promising high profits.
Police said the accused allegedly persuaded the woman to invest more than ₹1.5 crore by assuring her of a business partnership and double returns on the investment.
The complainant also alleged that Singh and his family frequently visited her house in Bilaspur during this period.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that around eight months ago, while travelling from Raipur to Bilaspur, the accused sent his driver away and sexually assaulted her at a secluded place. She claimed that he later left her on the roadside and fled, after which she returned to Bilaspur in an auto-rickshaw.
The woman further alleged that the accused continued demanding money through mobile messages and chat applications and threatened to kill her if she refused to pay.
Police said they are examining mobile chats, call records, and financial transaction documents as part of the investigation.
