Made in China’ dominance hurting democracies, says Rahul Gandhi
Berlin | Desk: Addressing an event at the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed serious concerns about the global economy and manufacturing. Rahul Gandhi stated that India and Western countries have outsourced the production of goods to China, which has severely impacted job creation in democratic countries.
According to him, the dominance of "Made in China" goods has led to political turmoil and polarization in India, the US, and Europe. Rahul Gandhi argued that if democracies are to survive, they must develop their own production models, as it is not possible to generate large-scale employment solely through the service sector.
He emphasized that India possesses the necessary capacity, cost structure, and population for manufacturing, yet the country has not been able to achieve its full potential in this sector.
During the same event, Rahul Gandhi commented on global geopolitics, stating that the long-standing American dominance is now effectively being challenged. He said that between 1990 and 2014, India benefited significantly from the US-led unipolar world order, but now the US is weakening at every level – military, economic, and financial.
He also raised questions about the US dollar and the internal political situation in the United States.
Earlier, during a visit to BMW World in Munich, Rahul Gandhi had claimed that the manufacturing sector in India was declining.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted sharply to Rahul Gandhi's statements.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari dismissed Rahul Gandhi's claims as "fake news," stating that in the last 10 years, electronics manufacturing in India has increased by 495%, and exports have registered a 760% growth.
The BJP used these figures to refute Rahul Gandhi's claims that questioned India's growth story.
