Durg chosen for Mock drill in Chhattisgarh

Raipur | Correspondent: A Nation-wide mock drill scheduled for May 7 will be conducted only in Durg district in Chhattisgarh state. The Union Home Minister has issued directive to this effect in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of the state. 

Speaking to the Media on the matter, Home Minister Vijay Sharma stated,' Several instructions have been recieved from the Union Home Minister, Mock drill is among them. Such exercises are necessary and should be conducted on a regular basis. one can never predict an emergency period. All the departments are fully prepared and have been instructed to be ready for any situation.' 

According to the orders issued, the drill will be conducted in the 244 listed civil defense districts across the country. The aim is to assess and enhance preparedness at both Urban and Rural levels. 

Various types of exercises will be conducted during the drill. These include testing the effectiveness of air raid warning systems, reviewing the functioning of control rooms, and training civilians and students in safety protocols during attacks. The drill will also include a complete electricity blackout simulation to assess readiness under such conditions. 

Experts note, the drill will focus on trrigerring warning sirens during simulated air raids, educating citizens and students about civil defense measures in the event of an enemy attack, organizing immediate blackouts and camouflaging key infrastructure. It will also include rehearsals for evacuating people as part of an established evacuation plan.
