Cold Wave Warning for Northern Chhattisgarh Over the Next Two Days
Raipur | Correspondent: Northern Chhattisgarh is expected to experience very cold weather over the next two days. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for one or two local pockets in six districts- Korea, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Surajpur, Balrampur, Surguja, and Jashpur.
According to the weather department, there will be no major change in the minimum temperatures across the state during this period. However, after this phase, the minimum temperature may increase by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 29.7 degrees Celsius in Jagdalpur. On the other hand, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 4.6 degrees Celsius in Ambikapur.
Weather experts said that the recent increase in cold conditions in Chhattisgarh is due to the effect of a western disturbance. A western disturbance pushes cold air from the Himalayan region and northern India towards the south. At the same time, a fast-moving jet stream carries these cold winds quickly towards central India. As a result, the cold air from northern India reaches Chhattisgarh.
Because of this, night temperatures fall rapidly. Cold conditions are felt more strongly during the morning and evening hours. In some areas, cold wave conditions develop.
Meteorologists explained this situation with an example. If the door of a refrigerator is left open and a fan is switched on, the cold air spreads to distant areas. In this case, the western disturbance acts like the refrigerator, and the jet stream works like a fan, helping the cold air reach as far as Chhattisgarh.
