11,000 sugarcane farmers get subsidised sugar
Farmers receive subsidised sugar at Pandariya sugar factory
Pandariya | Correspondent: More than 11,000 sugarcane farmers who are shareholders of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cooperative Sugar Factory in Pandariya, Kawardha, have received subsidised sugar amid rising sugar prices.
Following the initiative of Pandariya MLA Bhavna Bohra, each farmer was provided 50 kg of sugar at a subsidised rate of ₹30 per kg.
The distribution was held at the factory premises. During the event, it was also announced that a grand statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the ‘Iron Man of India’, will be installed at the factory. The bhoomi pujan ceremony for the statue has already been conducted.
MLA Bhavna Bohra said efforts were being made to strengthen the financial position of sugarcane farmers. She said recovery payments for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons had been credited to the farmers’ accounts.
She added that efforts were underway to secure the largest-ever lump-sum payment for Pandariya’s sugarcane growers and to develop the cooperative sugar factory into one of the leading sugar mills in the country.
The factory is also taking measures to increase sugarcane productivity and farmers’ incomes. As part of the initiative, high-quality sugarcane varieties have been procured from Maharashtra, and farmers are being encouraged to cultivate them. The new varieties are expected to improve yields and increase farmers’ earnings.
