Bilaspur | Correspondent: There is important news for motorists traveling on Chhattisgarh's National Highways. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to increase toll rates at various toll plazas located across the state's different routes.

According to the new guidelines issued for the financial year 2026-27, travelers heading from Bilaspur towards Raipur, Korba, Raigarh, and Ambikapur will now have to pay an additional amount ranging from ₹5 to ₹20 per trip. These new toll rates will come into effect starting April 1st.

The most significant impact of this NHAI decision will be observed at four major toll booths in the Bilaspur district Bhojpuri, Mudhipar, Paraghat, and Bagdeva through which approximately one lakh vehicles pass daily.

According to the notification, toll rates have been hiked by 5 to 10 percent, depending on the type of vehicle and the distance traveled.

However, private and light commercial vehicles traveling via the Ring Road have been granted an exemption; at these locations, the fee hike applies only to heavy vehicles. Furthermore, the old rates will continue to apply for local pass holders, offering significant relief to local residents.

Consumers opting for annual passes for long-distance travel have also felt the pinch of rising costs. The annual pass, previously available for ₹3,000, will now become dearer by ₹75, costing ₹3,075.

Officials state that these changes have been implemented in accordance with the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and the annual review process. Toll charges are determined based on the length of the road and the modern amenities available on it such as flyovers or tunnels resulting in an average nationwide increase of approximately 2.5% this time around.
