Sidhi assault case turns political after video goes viral
Sidhi | Desk: A video of a woman being brutally beaten in public in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district is going viral on social media. The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Bhanwar village, under the Bahri police station area, following a dispute over setting up a vegetable stall. Police have registered an FIR against two youths, Santosh Pathak and Rahul Dwivedi.
In the viral video, the main accused, Santosh Pathak, is seen kicking, punching, and beating the woman with a stick. The victim, Hema Singh, alleges that the accused threatened to remove her shop and began beating her when she resisted.
The incident has taken a political turn. The Congress party shared the video on social media, calling the accused a "BJP leader" and accusing the state government of "jungle raj." The Congress party said that leaders intoxicated with power are oppressing women.
Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jitu Patwari made serious allegations against the BJP regarding this matter. Posting on his official social media platform, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the slogan "Educate the girl child, save the girl child," but there was no mention of protecting girls from BJP leaders. He alleged that a woman was brutally assaulted by a BJP leader in Sidhi.
Patwari further claimed that incidents of violence against women by BJP leaders are increasing in the state. He said that some people are committing atrocities against women out of arrogance of power. He also said that women will respond to such incidents politically.
The Congress leader also targeted Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in this matter. He said that the Chief Minister also holds the responsibility of the Home Department and ensuring the safety of women in the state is his primary responsibility. Patwari alleged that the state government has failed to fulfill this responsibility.
Patwari demanded the immediate registration of an FIR and strict action against the accused in this case. He said that if timely action is not taken against such incidents, it will raise serious questions about law and order and the safety of women.
However, Sidhi's Additional Superintendent of Police, Arvind Srivastava, denied any political affiliations. According to the police, a case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the BNS Act, and teams have been dispatched to search for them. Both accused are currently absconding.
