Raipur | Correspondent: Pre-monsoon activity has gained momentum across Chhattisgarh, bringing significant relief from the intense summer heat. Several parts of the state recorded moderate to heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, leading to a noticeable decline in day temperatures across many districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures have fallen by 1 to 5 degrees Celsius in various regions following the recent spell of rain and cloud cover. Weather experts predict that temperatures may decrease by an additional 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the next two days. However, after this brief cooling phase, temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has also forecast continued unstable weather conditions across the state over the next five days. Isolated areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and intermittent rainfall. Wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kmph in some places, raising concerns about localized disruptions, damage to weak structures, and risks associated with lightning strikes.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity, avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning, and stay updated with weather advisories issued by local administration and disaster management agencies.

Despite the widespread rainfall and cooler conditions in many districts, Rajnandgaon remained the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Ambikapur reported the lowest minimum temperature at 19.2 degrees Celsius, making it the coolest place in Chhattisgarh during the period.

Meteorologists attribute the changing weather pattern to active pre-monsoon systems influencing central India. The ongoing rainfall is expected to provide further respite from heatwave-like conditions and may also contribute to favorable conditions ahead of the southwest monsoon's advance into the region.

The coming days are likely to witness a mix of cloudy skies, scattered showers, thunderstorms, and fluctuating temperatures, signaling the gradual transition from the peak summer season toward the monsoon period in Chhattisgarh.
