Over 1,100 stray dogs allegedly killed in Telangana in two months, fresh case in Hanumakonda
Hyderabad | Desk: The alleged mass killing of stray dogs in Telangana continues unabated. In Hanumakonda district, the carcasses of 200 dogs were recovered once again. This brings the total number of dogs killed in the state between December 2025 and January 26, 2026, to over 1,100.
A member of a volunteer organization, A. Gautam, filed a complaint at the local police station on Monday regarding the incident. According to the complaint, approximately 200 dogs were killed using poisonous injections in Pathipaka village about a month ago. It is alleged that this action was carried out on the instructions of the village panchayat secretary.
According to reports, the dog carcasses were taken to a cemetery and buried. Earlier, in similar incidents, a total of nine people, including the village panchayat head and her husband, had been arrested.
In January, allegations surfaced of 100 and 300 dogs being killed with poisonous injections in Yacharam and Pegatiyal villages of Jagtial district, respectively. In the Yacharam case, three people, including the village panchayat head and the panchayat secretary, have been named as accused.
Similarly, in Kamareddy district, a complaint has been filed against six people, including five village heads, for the killing of 200 dogs. Similar complaints are also emerging from several other districts of the state, including Rangareddy.
It is being alleged that these inhumane killings are being carried out in the name of "solving the stray dog problem" amidst the panchayat election atmosphere. Animal rights organizations have strongly condemned these incidents and demanded strict action against the culprits.
