Kunjam on Naxals
Kunjam on Naxals

Dantewada | Correspondent: Tribal Leader Manish Kunjam speaking about the active Naxalite movement in the region and the recent spate of surrenders. In unequivocal terms, Kunjam asserted that the senior Naxal leaders turning themselves in to the police constitutes not 'rehabilitation', but rather a 'surrender' executed solely to save their own lives.

He alleged that those who chose the path of violence for decades in the name of Jal, Jungle, Zameen, these leaders were actually engaged in plundering Bastar's wealth.

Questioning the economic activities of Naxalites, Kunjam stated that the recently recovered gold biscuits and substantial cash serve as irrefutable proof that this movement had completely lost its way.

He further claimed that the presence of foreign bank stamps on the recovered gold is a matter of grave concern that needs thorough investigation. According to him, after the elimination of the following senior leaders like Sonu, Rupesh, and Chaitu, Naxalism is now breathing its last in Sukma and the surrounding areas.

The former MLA also leveled the sensational allegation that the agitations staged in connection with mining projects such as Amdai and Raoghat, by using villagers as pawns, were, in reality, merely a means to extort levies. Acts of violence, such as the sabotage of pipelines, were perpetrated only when these demands were not met.

Kunjam warned the government that a situation of social conflict could arise between surrendered Naxals returning to their villages and the victimized villagers, a scenario that must be prevented at all costs. Demanding justice for the victims of Naxal violence and an impartial inquiry into the entire sequence of events, he observed that, driven by education and development, the younger generation is now distancing itself from this hollow ideology.
