More than 61,000 join online census drive in Chhattisgarh
Over 61,000 residents register via self-enumeration portal
Raipur | Correspondent: The campaign underway in Chhattisgarh for the 2027 'Digital-First Census' has now gained momentum. More than 61,000 residents of the state have so far registered themselves on the self-enumeration portal, signaling a major shift in the methodology of collecting demographic data.
According to data from the Directorate of Census Operations, a total of 61,503 citizens have participated in the online process; of these, 47,419 individuals have successfully submitted their family details, while 14,084 are currently in the process of data entry.
Conducted under the guidance of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, this campaign facilitates residents in directly sharing information regarding their housing, family structure, and basic amenities through a secure, OTP-based portal.
Upon successfully submitting their details, users are issued a 'Census Reference Number' (CRN), which serves as an official record for future verification purposes.
Officials believe that this digital approach will not only enhance data accuracy but also minimize human errors typically associated with enumeration, thereby reducing the workload on field enumerators.
To streamline the process, trained supervisors equipped with digital devices have been deployed to assist citizens with data entry and verification. Additionally, helplines have been established to resolve any technical issues that may arise.
Kartikeya Goyal, the Director of Census Operations for Chhattisgarh, urged citizens to complete this process promptly, emphasizing that an accurate database is indispensable for the effective planning and delivery of welfare schemes. He clarified that the collected data would remain strictly confidential and would be utilized solely for statistical purposes, under the protection of legal safeguards.
