It is reported that due to dense fog, a car hit the divider, and then a bus rammed into the same car from behind. Following this, several buses and smaller vehicles collided with each other. The collision was so severe that some buses and cars caught fire.

According to a statement from the Mathura police, at least seven buses and three smaller vehicles were involved in the collision at milestone 127. Scenes from the accident site showed the charred remains of buses that had caught fire, and cranes were called in to remove the wreckage from the road.
