Diarrhea outbreak in Jashpur, hundreds hospitalised
Jashpur | Desk: A sudden surge in diarrhea cases occurred in Jashpur nagar, the headquarters of Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, on Saturday night, putting pressure on the local health system. Hundreds of people from various parts of the city reached the district hospital with complaints of vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain.
According to district hospital sources, more than 100 patients sought treatment overnight, many of whom were admitted in critical condition.
In addition, a private clinic and hospital on Raigarh Road also received more than 100 people with similar problems.
Many people were purchasing electrolyte solutions and anti-diarrheal medications at pharmacies and administering first aid at home. Pharmacists reported that demand for anti-vomiting and diarrhea medications had suddenly increased over the past two days, and in some cases, patients had to be hospitalized.
Most patients have been discharged after initial treatment, but the number of patients at the hospital continues to rise.
Preliminary investigations by doctors suspect that all of these people attended a community feast or meal held in the city. Food poisoning may have occurred due to consumption of adulterated or spoiled food, which is affecting the mass gathering.
