Conversion row sparks violence in Narayanpur
Conversion row turns violent
Narayanpur | Correspondent: A violent clash broke out between two groups in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Monday night. The dispute occurred after allegations of religious conversion. The incident caused a stir among the administration, and a heavy police force has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. The police are currently keeping a close watch on the situation.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bharanda police station, where a group of people, including a pastor, arrived in a vehicle marked "Press" late in the evening. Villagers claimed that religious activities were being conducted at a local house and that tribal residents were being encouraged to convert to Christianity.
Upon learning of this, the villagers mobilized, arrived at the scene, and began to protest vehemently.
The protest quickly escalated into violence, with both sides using sticks and clubs against each other. Two or three people, including a woman, sustained injuries in the altercation; they were immediately taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Angered by the incident, the villagers staged a protest and blocked the road. They also argued that the misuse of the "media" label was tarnishing journalism's image and demanded that the strictest possible legal action be taken against the accused.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, senior administrative and police officials rushed to the scene and persuaded the villagers to call off the road blockade. Additional forces have been deployed to maintain peace in the village, and authorities are engaging in dialogue with both parties.
However, the police administration stated that the allegations regarding religious conversion have not yet been officially confirmed. An impartial investigation is underway, and further action will be determined based on the facts that emerge from the inquiry.
