Jagdalpur | Correspondent: Amidst the decades-long insurgency in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, a new chapter of human compassion and familial happiness is now being written. Through a unique initiative by the Bastar Police and the Health Department, specifically 'Reverse Vasectomy' (sterilization reversal surgery), happiness has returned to the lives of former Naxalite couples who were once deprived by the Naxal organization of their natural right to become parents.

According to the latest statistics, under the government's rehabilitation policy, sterilization reversal surgeries have been performed on 52 former Naxalite couples to date; among them, the sounds of infants' laughter now echo in the homes of 23 couples.

In reality, a cruel truth regarding the Maoist organization has been the immense pressure exerted upon cadres who chose to marry within its ranks. To prevent married couples within the organization from succumbing to familial attachments or the responsibilities of raising children, they were subjected to forced sterilization.

Having spent decades within the Naxalite cadre, these couples possessed neither personal property nor the right to expand their families. However, when these former Naxalites decided to renounce the path of violence and return to the mainstream, the Bastar Police administration resolved to alleviate this void in their lives.

Providing details regarding this humanitarian initiative, Bastar Inspector General (IG) Sundarraj P explained that the Naxal organization, as part of a calculated conspiracy, would sterilize its cadres to ensure they would never contemplate leaving the organization to settle down and raise a family.

Following their surrender, when these couples shared their plight, the administration, with the assistance of experts from the Health Department, initiated the process of 'Reverse Vasectomy' surgeries. This is not merely a medical procedure; rather, it represents a dignified opportunity for these individuals to hold their own child in their arms, replacing the guns they once carried.

The IG further added that out of the 52 couples who underwent the surgery, 23 have already experienced the joy of parenthood and are now leading normal, happy, and peaceful family lives. Witnessing this success, several other recently surrendered Naxalite couples have also expressed a desire to have their sterilization procedures reversed.

The sounds of infants' cries echoing in these 23 households serve as a powerful message to those who are still wandering in the jungles. This transformation is not only redefining peace and rehabilitation in Bastar but is also lending unprecedented strength to the trust that both the general public and the surrendered Naxalites place in the security forces and the government.
