Janjgir | Correspondent: People of Navagarh block's Garm panchayat Sakhlan, are grappling with a severe environmental crisis.

The constant dust blowing from the nearby flyash dumping site has made life miserable for residents. After repeated complaints to the management with no results, the villagers' frustration has surged.

Outraged villagers have now approached the District Collector directly, submitting a memorandum and demanding immediate action to curb this problem.

They have clearly warned the administration that if concrete steps are not taken in time, they will be compelled to launch a massive public agitation.

Local farmers are particularly worried about the situation. With the monsoon approaching, they fear that once the rain begins, the airborne fly ash will flow into their fields. This poses a risk of rendering the soil barren and causing extensive damage to their crops.

According to the farmers, if the administration fails to implement immediate safety measures at the dumping site, the region's agriculture will be completely devastated.

Not just agriculture, but pollution will impact health and cause safety hazards for the residents. Airborne flyash particles are causing breathing difficulties and leading to various health ailments among the villagers.

Additionally, fly ash accumulating on the roads is causing vehicles to skid, thereby increasing the risk of frequent accidents. School-going children are facing the brunt of these difficulties.

Furthermore, livestock frequently get trapped in the deep, open pits and mounds of debris, putting the lives of these voiceless animals at risk.

Through their memorandum, the villagers have appealed to the district administration to intervene in the matter immediately. They demand that officials visit the fly ash dumping site in person to inspect it and enforce strict pollution control regulations.

Residents clearly state that this issue is not limited to the environment alone; rather, it is directly linked to the health of their children, the livelihoods of farmers, and the safety of the entire region. It remains to be seen how promptly the administration acts to address this serious humanitarian and environmental crisis.
