Victory or Escalation? White House divided on Iran conflict

Washington | Desk: Amidst the ongoing military conflict with Iran, a complex internal struggle has emerged within the White House. Behind President Donald Trump's contradictory statements lies an ongoing debate among his advisors, a disagreement regarding when and how to declare victory in this conflict.

Two weeks into 'Operation Epic Fury,' the Trump administration now appears caught between economic pressures and strategic objectives.

On one hand, economic advisors, including Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and James Blair, are warning the President that rising tensions in the Middle East could trigger a surge in crude oil prices and escalating gas rates, potentially taking a heavy toll on domestic politics.

These advisors are pressuring Trump to narrow the definition of victory and signal an end to the conflict to calm global markets.

On the other hand, the "hawks," a hardline faction represented by figures such as Senators Lindsey Graham and Tom Cotton, believe that military operations must continue to completely dismantle Iran's nuclear program and maintain U.S. dominance in the region.

Meanwhile, figures linked to Trump's populist base, such as Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson, are advising him to avoid getting bogged down in yet another protracted Middle East war.

President Trump recently revealed his dilemma during a rally in Kentucky; shortly after declaring, "We won," he immediately followed up by speaking of the need to "finish the job."

Although Israeli and U.S. strikes have inflicted significant damage on Iran's military infrastructure, Iran's continued attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted the global oil trade.

However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has dismissed these internal disagreements as mere "rumors," stating that the President remains the ultimate decision-maker and that the entire team remains focused on achieving their defined objectives.
