Skeletons of missing couple found in Sarguja forest after six years
Couple had been missing since 2020
Ambikapur | Correspondent: In the jungles of Sarguja, the remains of a young couple were discovered who had been missing for the last six years.
The registered incident took place in the Dhaurpur police station area.
On Saturday, in the presence of forensic experts, the police excavated the site and recovered two human skeletons.
Based on the clothing found at the scene, family members have identified the deceased as Vinod Korwa (19) and Jyoti Gond (17).
According to reports, villagers visiting the forested area noticed signs of skeletons buried beneath the soil. Upon receiving this information, the police arrived at the scene and initiated an excavation, during which they discovered two skeletons scattered across different spots.
It is reported that the couple had suddenly disappeared during the summer of 2020. As they belonged to different communities, their families were opposed to their relationship. After a prolonged search yielded no results, Vinod's father filed a missing person report in 2023.
The police suspect that the bodies were buried in a pit near the stream with the specific intent of concealing evidence. Since villagers engage in farming activities in that area, leaving the bodies exposed would have likely led to their discovery much earlier due to the stench or other tell-tale signs.
Another angle of the investigation explores the possibility that the couple may have died after coming into contact with live electric wires set up by poachers to trap wild boars; subsequently, out of fear of being caught, someone may have buried their bodies. R.C. Chandra, the Station In-charge of Dhaurpur police station, has clarified that DNA testing is being conducted on the skeletons to confirm their identities scientifically and to ascertain the actual cause of death.
