Low-pressure system brings light rain, lightning alert in Chhattisgarh
Raipur | Correspondent: The effects of the low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal are now visible in Chhattisgarh. Light rain was recorded in many parts of the state on Monday. Raipur and Bilaspur remained cloudy since morning, and drizzle occurred in the afternoon. The Meteorological Department has also issued a lightning warning for some areas.
Rainfall accompanied by strong winds began in the afternoon in Balrampur (Surguja division) and Raigarh. Hailstorms in Wadrafnagar and surrounding areas are expected to damage wheat and mustard crops, raising concerns among farmers.
According to the Meteorological Department, similar conditions may persist for the next two days. There is a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain in some places. However, there is no indication of any major change in temperatures over the next seven days. In the past 24 hours, the highest temperature was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon, and the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius in Ambikapur.
According to meteorologists, the low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal will remain active for the next 48 hours. The associated moisture trough extends across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and southern Maharashtra, bringing marine moisture into the interior. Cold air in the upper atmosphere and increasing moisture at lower levels are contributing to the unstable weather.
Although this system is not very close to Chhattisgarh, widespread heavy rainfall is unlikely. Nevertheless, the state may experience partly cloudy skies, light rain, and a slight drop in temperatures. Cloud cover is expected to be more prevalent in southern Chhattisgarh (Bastar division), especially in the region.
February is generally clear, but the influence of western disturbances can sometimes lead to thunderstorms, storms, and hailstorms. This is why this month is considered a period of volatile weather.
