Leopard attacks farmer in Kanker village
Kanker | Correspondent: In the Sarona forest range of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, a leopard attacked a villager from Bangabari Nayapara. According to reports, on Sunday evening, a man named Sagram Netam was bathing at a borewell located on his farm when a leopard, lying in ambush, suddenly pounced on him.
Finding himself trapped in the clutches of the wild animal, Sagram did not lose heart and began shouting for help. Hearing his screams, other villagers working in nearby fields rushed to the spot, armed with sticks and clubs. Upon seeing the large crowd of villagers approaching, the leopard abandoned the injured man who was left bleeding profusely and fled back into the forest.
Acting with promptness, local residents immediately transported the injured farmer to the Primary Health Center in Basanwahi, where he is currently undergoing treatment by doctors. As of now, Sagram's condition is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Following this violent incident, an atmosphere of intense fear prevails in Bangabari and the surrounding villages within the Sarona region. Villagers state that while the movement of wild animals is frequently observed in this area, this direct attack occurring so close to residential zones has now made people hesitant to venture out into their fields.
Upon receiving official information regarding the incident, the Forest Department team has been put on high alert. The department has issued advisories to the villagers, urging them not to travel alone on deserted paths or in the fields, and to venture out only in groups during the evening hours. Forest officials have given assurances that they will increase patrols in the area and closely monitor the leopard's movements to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
