Marwahi | Correspondent: A five-year-old female bear was found dead in the forest near Pipariya village in Chhattisgarh's Marwahi range. Villagers spotted the carcass and informed forest officials.

After reaching the spot and conducting an inquiry, the Forest Department said the bear likely died due to extreme heat and heatstroke. Marwahi Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Grishmi Chand confirmed the cause of death.

Following legal procedures and a panchnama in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), the carcass was cremated. Forest officials said efforts are being stepped up to ensure better water availability for wildlife and provide relief from the ongoing heatwave.

Meanwhile, forest staff in the Sevni Circle remain on alert as a herd of four elephants from Madhya Pradesh continues to stay in the Ghusariya Beat area. Although the elephants have not entered residential areas or harmed anyone, they have damaged crops belonging to around 12 farmers in Kumari, Chichgohna, Ghusariya and Majittola villages.

Forest officials said the herd may move towards Pandri, Sachratola or Marwahi in the coming days. Announcements are being made in nearby villages, and residents have been advised not to enter forest areas. Forest teams are continuously monitoring the movement of the elephants to prevent any untoward incidents.
