Ambikapur | Correspondent: Chhattisgarh's former Deputy Chief Minister, T.S. Singh Deo, has targeted the Central Government over the delays in implementing the Women's Reservation Act. Speaking to journalists, he alleged that despite the law being unanimously passed by Parliament in 2023, the government does not appear keen on translating it into reality.

Singh Deo has demanded that, rather than leaving the implementation of this law contingent upon a future census or delimitation exercise, it should be made effective immediately based on the current allocation of seats.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misleading the public, Singh Deo asserted that it was during the Congress's tenure that women were empowered through the provision of reservations in Panchayati Raj institutions and government jobs.

Citing the example of South Indian states, he argued that the plan to increase the number of seats based on population size is a conspiracy designed to diminish the political representation of those states that have performed commendably in population control. According to him, this very political maneuver is the reason behind the delay in implementing the reservation policy.

Commenting on the local politics of Chhattisgarh, the former Deputy Chief Minister remarked that there is a stark disconnect between the BJP government's rhetoric and its actions in the state. On one hand, claims are being made regarding the recruitment of teachers, while on the other, schools are being shut down.

He pledged that if Congress returns to power, priority will be accorded to fundamental public services such as education, healthcare, and electricity. Furthermore, describing the 'Nari Vandan Yojana' as a mere imitation of the Congress party's own model, he dismissed it as nothing more than an electoral stunt by the BJP.
