Chhattisgarh hikes Tendu leaf rate to Rs 5,500 per bag

Raipur | Correspondent: The Vishnudev Sai government of Chhattisgarh has taken a major decision in the interest of millions of forest dwellers in the state, announcing a substantial increase in the tendu leaf collection rate. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, through his official 'X' handle, informed that tendu leaf collectors will now be paid Rs. 5,500 per standard bag instead of Rs. 4,000.

This government decision will provide collectors with a direct additional benefit of Rs. 1,500 per bag. The Chief Minister described this as fulfilling the promise of the 'double engine' government and a step to strengthen the economic condition of tribals.

Tendu leaf collection is a major source of livelihood for rural and tribal communities in the state.

In Chhattisgarh, one of the largest tendu leaf-producing states in the country, this price increase will not only increase the income of forest dwellers but also improve their purchasing power.

Officials believe that this increased rate will increase local participation in collection activities and give a new impetus to the rural economy. This move of the government underlines its commitment towards forest produce based livelihood and tribal welfare in the state.
