Chhattisgarh to Withdraw Cases Against Surrendered Naxalites
Raipur | Correspondent: The Chhattisgarh government has taken a significant step toward rehabilitating individuals who have abandoned Naxal activities and returned to the mainstream.
In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sai on Wednesday, the proposal to withdraw criminal cases filed against Naxalites who have surrendered was approved. For this purpose, the government has decided to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee and District-Level Committees. Individuals who have shown good conduct and completely renounced violence will be eligible for this relief.
The cabinet also approved the Jan Vishwas Bill-2025 (Second Edition), aimed at simplifying and rationalizing legal provisions. Under this new version, 116 provisions across 14 Acts from 11 departments will be amended. Minor violations will now attract administrative penalties and faster resolution, thereby strengthening Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living. Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to introduce the second edition of the Jan Vishwas Bill.
The district-level committee formed for monitoring the withdrawal of cases will submit a detailed report to the Police Headquarters. The headquarters will forward the proposal along with its recommendations. After obtaining the opinion of the Law Department, the cases will be presented before the Cabinet Sub-Committee, and the cases recommended by it will be placed before the Cabinet for final approval.
In matters related to central laws or requiring approval from the Central Government, the state will seek necessary permissions from the Union Government. Other cases will be forwarded by the District Magistrate to the court through the government counsel for initiating the formal process of case withdrawal.
