Centre announces computer-based NEET after leak row
Centre moves to digital exam system after NEET leak controversy
New Delhi | Desk: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Friday that, starting next year, the NEET UG examination will be conducted entirely in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The government has taken this significant step amidst allegations of irregularities and paper leaks surrounding the NEET examination.
The Education Minister clarified that the current OMR sheet-based system is the root cause of paper leaks and malpractices; therefore, technology will now be leveraged to eliminate this issue.
The Education Minister stated that following the examination held on May 3, a complaint regarding a paper leak was received on May 7. The subsequent investigation confirmed that the actual question papers had been leaked under the guise of "guess papers." Given the gravity of the matter, the investigation has now been handed over to the CBI.
Adopting a firm stance against the "education mafia," he asserted that the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards malpractices and remains committed to safeguarding the rights of meritorious students.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the cancelled examination will be re-conducted on Sunday, June 21. Dharmendra Pradhan assured the students that this difficult decision was taken in the broader interest of the nation and the students, ensuring that there remains no scope for any form of fraud in the future.
