Bilaspur maids protest over wage, leave, travel distance

Bilaspur | Correspondent: Domestic work in the Vijyapuram area of Sarkanda, Bilaspur has come to a halt on Saturday morning after around 400 domestic worker have staged agitation.

The protesters are seeking a salary hike, three days of leave every month, and separate transportation charges. 

Vijayapuram colony has around 1500 houses. Most of the women working there come from the nearby Atal awas, located behind the colony, where they are employed to sweep, mop floors, and wash utensils. 

However, the road connecting Atal awas to Vijyapuram has been shut due to security purpose forcing the maids to travel an extra 4-5 kilometers to work. 

Their primary demand is to open the road or charge separate fare for the journey. 

Meanwhile, residents of the area were seen worried. Many housewives were mostly affected by the strike.
