Indore | Desk: In a tragedy that took place in Indore claimed the lives of eight people including a pregnant woman while four other sustained injuries.
A fire broke out in an electric car due to a short circuit while it was charging, subsequently engulfing a three-story residential building.
The tragedy led to claiming lives of eight people including rubber businessman Manoj Pugalia and his pregnant daughter-in-law, Simran while four others sustained injuries.
Six of the deceased were relatives of Manoj who had arrived from Kishanganj, Bihar, on Tuesday. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, between 3:30 AM and 4:00 AM, in the Greater Brijeshwari Colony near Bengali Square.
According to the police, the fire which spread from the car to the house engulfed several gas cylinders kept inside. The cylinders began exploding one after another, sending shockwaves through the entire locality. The blasts were so powerful that a section of the building collapsed. Due to a disruption in the power supply, the digital locks installed in the house failed to unlock, leaving those sleeping inside with no opportunity to escape.
Nearby residents reported that fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene approximately one hour after they had been alerted.
