50 bonded labourers from Chhattisgarh rescued in Tamil Nadu

Janjgir | Correspondent: Fifty bonded labourers from Chhattisgarh, including women and children, have been rescued from Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district following a coordinated operation involving the administrations of both states.

According to officials, the labourers were being held in Devanandavakam village, where they were allegedly forced to work under exploitative conditions and were not paid fair wages. Action was initiated after authorities received a complaint regarding their situation.

The rescued group includes 41 labourers, along with women and children. The Tiruvallur district administration, with support from local organisations, conducted the rescue operation and arranged for their safe return.

Janjgir-Champa Collector Janmejay Mahobe closely monitored the rescue efforts and remained in contact with officials in Tamil Nadu throughout the operation. He also spoke directly with the affected workers over the phone, assuring them of administrative support and their safe return home.

Officials said the rescued labourers have been provided food, travel tickets and other essential facilities by the Tamil Nadu administration. They have also been issued release certificates under the relevant legal provisions.

The Collector said the process of providing financial assistance to the affected families, as per government norms, has already been initiated.

The district administration is now focused on ensuring the safe return of all rescued individuals to their villages and preventing them from falling victim to similar exploitation in the future. Officials said they will continue to remain in contact with the workers until they reach home safely.
